"Together." by kate deroco For my project this year I made 3 correlating pieces that have similar shapes and glazes to wrap them all together. I made this group of pieces to mainly represent LGBTQ rights and equality for everyone and everything by hand-building a rainbow, a star and moon, and a slab that had both of those 2 pieces combined on it. All the pieces also included some words that I believed fit with the theme that being “out of the ordinary” is a negative concept and should not be judged. The rainbow’s quote is “Normal” to represent how if someone is a part of the LGBTQ community, they should be treated completely normally because it is a normal thing. The moon/star’s quote is a reminder that since we are all “born under the same sky”, we should all be treated as equals because we are all coming from the same place and should all be seen the same. The slab’s quote just puts it simply that we are all going through life and should support each other, no matter who you are or what you're going through.
